Twitter loses its intermediary status after failing to comply with new IT rules

Twitter has suffered a major loss in India for its non-compliance with the new IT rules of the government. It has now lost the basis of legal protection in India. According to media reports, the IT rules implemented from May 25 have not been followed yet, after which this action has been taken against it by the government. From now on, cases can be registered against Twitter under IPC for any illegal content. After this move, Twitter is now the only US-based platform from which this legal protection under Section 79 of the IT Act has been withdrawn. Earlier on Tuesday, Twitter had said that it has appointed an interim chief compliance officer for India.
