Google has today created an animated doodle to honor Dr. James Naismith, who invented the game of basketball. He was a Canadian-American physical educator. It is said that Dr. James Naismith invented the game in 1891 to keep the students occupied with physical activity during cold days. He wrote about the rules of the game in the Springfield College School newspaper The Triangle. The Google Doodle shows children playing basketball while Dr. James Naismith is jotting down something on a paper. There is a wall in the background which shows snowfall from the window indicating that the indoor game was invented on a cold day of January 15. Basketball became a part of the Olympic Games in 1936 Berlin Olympics.
