‘Very Severe’ Cyclone Yaas makes landfall in north Odisha near Dhamra port

The Indian Meteorological Department has reported that the process of landfall of Cyclone Yaas has begun in Odisha. Wind will hit the speed of 185 km per hour at Dhamra port. Meanwhile, heavy rains accompanied with strong winds have lashed Balasore and Bhadrak districts of Odisha, while the North 24 Parganas of West Bengal is receiving continuous rainfall. Kolkata airport has been closed as a precautionary measure and all flights will remain suspended from 8.30 AM to 7.45 PM on May 26 from the airport. The NDRF has deployed 115 teams in five states and 1 union territory. So far, more than 10 lakh people have been evacuated from the coastal areas to safer places.
