Supreme Court to hear plea on Mehbooba Mufti’s release

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear a plea for releasing former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti from detention. She has been under detention since August 5, 2019 under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Mehbooba Mufti was put under detention after the abrogation of Article 370 which removed Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and divided it into two Union Territories. Her daughter Iltija Iqbal has filed the habeas corpus and challenged her mother’s prolonged detention.
