Mumbai is witnessing heavy rainfall upon the early arrival of monsoon today. Roads and railway tracks have been submerged in rain water. In view of this situation, the local railway service has been stopped altogether. Due to water-logging on the Eastern Express Highway, traffic has disrupted and there is very slow movement of vehicles. Most areas of Mumbai have received rainfall ranging from 40 to 70 mm whereas Navi Mumbai has received 120 mm of rain. IMD has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane and Raigad districts. Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had surveyed the preparedness of the civic body of Greater Mumbai.
