The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for Satara district of western Maharashtra. The Department has also issued ‘Orange Alert’ for Pune and Kolhapur districts. Due to heavy rains, at least 6 people have died in landslides and by drowning in Satara, District Collector Shekhar Singh said. Around 30 people are missing after landslides in Ambeghar, Mirgaon and Dhikawale villages of Patan. Around 150 people have been safely evacuated from Mirgaon, 50 from Ambeghar and 50 from Dhikawale. Issuing a ‘red alert’ for Satara, IMD predicted ‘heavy rain’ in the hilly areas in the next 24 hours.
