Heavy downpour wreaks havoc in Maharashtra’s Raigad, 36 killed

Due to the heavy rain since Thursday, 36 people have died because of landslides and floods in Raigad district. Out of these, 32 people are reported to have died in Talai and 4 in Sakhar Sutar Wadi while 30 people are still trapped, according to Raigad District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray said rescue operation is underway at several places and people have been ordered to shift from the place prone to landslides. Heavy rains have been pouring in the Konkan region and western Maharashtra since Wednesday night. The Chiplun city of Konkan is currently submerged in water. More than 5,000 people are trapped in the flood in this area.
