In Gujarat’s Bharuch, 18 patients have died due to a fire in a COVID hospital on Saturday. At around 1 AM, fire engulfed the Bharuch Patel Welfare COVID ward. There were about 50 patients admitted to the four-storeyed hospital. Some have been rescued with the help of locals and firefighters. According to a senior Bharuch police officer, 12 patients have died due to burns and suffocation, while it is not yet clear whether the remaining 6 patients died during shifting to another hospital or due to burns. The hospital is situated about 190 km away from Ahmedabad on the Bharuch-Jamshedpur highway. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani expressed condolences to the victims of the accident.
