Former Uttarakhand CM: ‘Coronavirus has a right to live’

Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat‘s statement on coronavirus has stirred controversy on social media. In an interview to a news channel, he said on Thursday, “Seen from a philosophical angle, coronavirus is also a living organism. It has the right to live like the rest of us. But we (humans) think ourselves to be the most intelligent and are out to eliminate it. So it is constantly mutating itself.” Reacting to the statement, the leaders of opposition parties have called it insensitive and ‘foolish’. A video of the ex-CM has gone viral on social media of this interview. Last year too, he was trolled for his claim that the cow is the only animal that exhales oxygen.
