Maharashtra Health Department has warned that the Delta Plus variant of the coronavirus can set off the third wave of COVID-19. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in view of the threat posed by the new variant, alerted the state health department to be fully prepared. In an important meeting with senior doctors and officials, he said that availability of medicines and necessary equipment in both rural and urban areas of the state should be ensured. In the first wave in Maharashtra, 19 lakh people were affected whereas 40 lakh people were affected in the second wave. Health officials have speculated that in the third wave, this number could double from the current patients.
