Suvendu Adhikari, who resigned from the Trinamool Congress, joined the BJP on Saturday in Midnapore, Bengal, in the presence of Union Home Minister and former BJP president Amit Shah. MLA from Nandigram in the former Midnapore district, Suvendu had resigned from the state cabinet on November 27 last month. After this, he resigned as MLA on Wednesday this week. On Thursday, he resigned from the primary membership of the TMC and completely quit the party. Suvendu’s entry in the BJP is a major setback for Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress ahead of the legislative assembly elections in the state.
