President’s rule has been imposed on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet after the Congress government collapsed in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The notification issued from Rashtrapati Bhavan said that the decision was taken after receiving the report from the Administrator of the Union Territory of Puducherry on 22 February. The President also suspended various provisions of the Government of the Union Territory Act, 1963 (20 of 1963). The notification also stated that the assembly of the Union Territory will remain in suspended state. V. Narayanasamy, who was heading the Congress government in Puducherry, resigned on Monday ahead of the trust vote. His government reduced to a minority after several party MLAs and one DMK MLA recently resigned.
