After losing in the assembly elections in West Bengal, the BJP once again suffered a major setback on Friday. Mukul Roy, BJP’s national vice president in the state, quit the party to join back the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which he had left in September, 2017. In the presence of Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, he joined the party at Trinamool Bhavan in Kolkata. Along with Mukul, his son and former MLA Shubhranshu Roy also joined the Trinamool Congress party. Since the election results, constant speculations were made about Mukul and his son returning to the party. Mukul had been one of the founding members of the TMC. However, after differences, he had resigned from TMC and joined the BJP.
