After Lakshadweep Police booked filmmaker Ayesha Sultana in a sedition case, a series of resignations by the Bhartiya Janata Party leaders and members have been tendered in protest. So far, 15 BJP members have resigned saying that the charges against Sultana are false and unjustified. She has been accused of disseminating false news about the spread of Coronavirus in the Union Territory during a debate on a Malayalam channel. Sultana had said that the central government has deployed a ‘biological weapon’ to spread coronavirus in Lakshadweep. The Kavaratti police have registered a case against the filmmaker under sections 124A (sedition) and 153B (hate speech) of the Indian Penal Code.
