RBI in affidavit to Supreme Court says: Not possible to extend loan moratorium period

On Saturday, India’s banking regulatory body, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a fresh affidavit to the Supreme Court in the loan moratorium case. In this affidavit, RBI said that it is not possible to avail more relief to sectors affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It clarified that it is impossible to extend the loan moratorium period exceeding six months as it “may result in vitiating the overall credit discipline which will have a debilitating impact on the process of credit creation in the economy”.
