The Labour Bureau is set to launch a new series of consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) on Wednesday, October 21. The index will be used to measure the inflation to calculate dearness allowance (DA) for government employees, wages for industrial workers and dearness relief for pensioners. The changing spending patterns of the working class in the organized sector, relative prices of goods called for the new series. The base year (first year of an inflation index) will be updated from 2001 to 2016 to calculate the CPI-IW.
