Indian Government bans TikTok and 58 other Chinese mobile apps citing national security

On Monday, the Government of India banned 59 mobile apps of China. GOI released a list of 59 apps stating that “they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order.” The list includes TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, Cam Scanner, Shein, Xiaomi Mobile Services and others. The decision was taken after the nation-wide demand to boycott Chinese products following the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops at Galwan valley in Ladakh.
