ICMR issues advisory on mucormycosis in COVID-19 patients

For the last few days, many cases of the ‘black fungus’ or mucormycosis infection have been reported in COVID-19 patients. In some cases, patients have lost their eyesight due to the infection. The Indian Council of Medical Research has issued an advisory stating that the effect of black fungus has been observed more in patients with uncontrolled diabetes and COVID-19 and those who spend number of days in hospital ICUs. It also stated in the advisory that if this disease is not treated on time, it can prove fatal for the patient.
