DGHC issues guidelines for Mucormycosis management in children below 18 years

DGHC, the Directorate General of Health Services, of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued guidelines for the prevention of black fungus or mucormycosis in adolescents and children below the age of 18 years. Mucormycosis is a serious fungal infection caused by overuse of steroids, cancer, organ or stem cell transplantation, uncontrolled diabetes or prolonged ICU treatment. The DGHC stated in the guideline not to wait for test results to start treatment for mucormycosis as it is an emergency disease. It also stated that those who cannot be administered Amphotericin B should be given Posaconazole.
