The second wave of coronavirus has been declining, but the rising cases of Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 has once again raised concerns in the country. According to government sources, so far 40 new cases of Delta Plus variants have been reported in the country. Delta Plus Variant of COVID-19 has been detected in four states – Maharashtra, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the country. India is one of the ten countries where the ‘Delta Plus’ variant has been found so far. WHO has placed this variant as the ‘Variant of Concern’. It has characteristics such as rapid proliferation, strong adherence to the lung cells receptors and a potential reduction in the ‘monoclonal antibody response’.
