Centre sends high-level team after Zika virus case surfaces in Maharashtra

Cases of Zika virus were recently detected in Kerala and now a case has also been found in Maharashtra. Taking action, the Health Ministry has sent a high-level team to Maharashtra to monitor the Zika virus situation. The team will be working closely with the state health department on this case. The first case of Zika virus was reported in Pune district of Maharashtra, where a 50-year-old woman was found infected. The woman had Zika virus as well as ‘chikungunya’. Meanwhile, Kerala has reported 63 cases of Zika virus, in view of which the state government had issued a high alert in many districts.
