Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra has written a letter to Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad urging him to expedite the proposals related to several electoral reforms, including a provision of two years jail to candidates for providing incorrect information in election affidavits. Chandra told news agency PTI, “I have written to the law minister to expedite these proposals and hopefully they will be taken up early by the ministry.” Among the election reforms, is a proposal to increase the jail term of six months to two years followed by a debarment of up to six years from contesting election for those candidates who give false information in their election affidavits.
