Yoshihide Suga becomes Japan’s new Prime Minister

On Wednesday, Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party leader Yoshihide Suga became the new Prime Minister. Suga has been elected in today’s parliamentary voting, becoming Japan’s first new premier in nearly eight years. He will announce the name of his cabinet ministers later today. Suga has succeeded PM Shinzo Abe after his resignation due to health issues. A day before, he had received 377 votes from lawmakers and regional representatives.
