Uttarakhand Glacier Burst: United Nations extends help to India

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed grief over the loss of life and property in the sudden floods in the Rishi Ganga Valley due to the breaking of a part of the Nanda Devi glacier in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state in India on Sunday. He said that the organization is ready to support in the ongoing rescue and relief operations in Uttarakhand. At least 10 people working in NTPC’s Tapovan-Vishnugad hydroelectric project and Rishiganga project were killed and more than 125 laborers are missing. Floods in the tributaries of the Ganges – Dhauli Ganga, Rishi Ganga and Alaknanda spread panic in the high mountain areas and caused widespread devastation.
