Amidst rising concern about the impact of new coronavirus strains on children, Britain’s medicines regulator, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), approved US-based pharma company Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 12-15. MHRA said that the vaccine had met the expected standards of safety, quality and effectiveness. Last month, the European Union’s Medicine Agencies and the United States had given clearance to use it for vaccinating children of the same age bracket. US’ Food and Drug Administration had said the Pfizer vaccine is safe and provides strong protection for adolescents aged 12 to 15 years.
