On 4th June, President of Russia, Vladimir Putin declared a state of emergency after an oil leakage turned a river within the Arctic Circle red. According to sources, over 20,000 tonnes of diesel oil leaked into the Arctic river on 29th May. A fuel tank had collapsed from a subsidiary of a power plant near the Siberian city in Norilsk. The power plant Norilsk Nickel is the world’s leading nickel and palladium producer. President Putin expressed his anger when he came to know that the officers learnt about the incident two days later.
