Israel: Opposition parties form coalition to unseat PM Benjamin Netanyahu

The opposition parties in Israel are very close to removing the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, from office. Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin informed that the opposition has reached an agreement to form a new government. Opposition leader Yair Lapid informed the President through an e-mail that he has succeeded in forming coalition to end Netanyahu’s twelve year rule. Under the coalition agreement, Naftali Bennett, Lapid’s ally and former defense minister of Israel, will be Israel’s new Prime Minister for the first two years. After which, Lapid will serve as the PM for the final two years. The vote on the agreement will take place early next week in the Knesset.
