India, Afghanistan sign pact to build Shahtoot Dam

A key agreement was signed between Afghanistan and India at the virtual summit held on Tuesday. Under this agreement, India will build the Shahtoot Dam on the river of Kabul, through which people will be able to get irrigational and potable water. PM Modi and Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani expressed happiness over the agreement. President Ghani said, “I thank Prime Minister Modi for this gift of dam along with the vaccine.” PM Modi and Afghan President Ghani attended the virtual summit on Tuesday along with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar. In addition to this dam, India has also promised to start a $80 million project in Afghanistan.
