Human trial of universal vaccine against COVID-19 variants likely to begin next year

Scientists are developing a universal vaccine or ‘super vaccine’, which can protect against all variants of coronavirus and prevent potential outbreaks in future. So far, this vaccine has been successfully tested on mice. The vaccine has been prepared by the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, USA. This discovery of scientists has been called as the ‘second generation vaccine’. Scientists are expectant of testing the universal vaccine on humans by next year. The mice on which it was tested were suffering from SARS-CoV and other variants of coronavirus. This vaccine has also shown efficacy on the B.1.351 variant found in South Africa.
