Haj Committee of India has rejected all the applications received for this year’s pilgrimage. Saudi Arabia had announced on Saturday that due to COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Haj pilgrimage will be limited to 60,000 people and all of them will be local. Last year, only about one thousand people of Saudi Arabia were selected for Haj. Under normal circumstances, about 20 lakh Muslims perform Haj in Mecca every year. This year Haj will begin in mid-July, according to the official statement. People in the age group of 18 to 65 years are allowed to participate in it. In 2019, around 2 lakh Indian Muslims performed Haj before the outbreak of Coronavirus.
