SC: Army’s criteria for evaluating women officers to grant permanent commission ‘discriminatory’

The Supreme Court has termed the process of granting permanent commission to women officers in the army as ‘discriminatory’. On Thursday, during the hearing of petitions of 80 women officers seeking permanent commission in the army, the apex court termed the Army’s Annual Confidential Report (ACR) assessment process as ‘flawed and discriminatory’ in nature. The court allowed the pleas by stating that the ACR evaluation ignores the achievements made by the women officers for the Indian Army. In their petitions, women army officials had alleged that the top court’s earlier judgment was not being complied with in “letter and spirit”.
