Justice NV Ramana will become the 48th Chief Justice of India on April 24. The current Chief Justice of India SA Bobde has recommended Justice NV Ramana as his successor. Justice Ramana is the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court after CJI Bobde, who is scheduled to retire on April 23. Recently, Minister of Law and Justice of India Ravi Shankar Prasad had asked the CJI to recommend the name of his successor in this regard as per the norms. Under the standard procedure, the Chief Justice is appointed on the basis of seniority in the Supreme Court. Judge Bobde was sworn in as the 47th Chief Justice of the country on 18 November, 2019.
