The central government on Thursday released guidelines for social media and Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms. According to the new guidelines, objectionable content has to be removed from the platform within 24 hours of the complaint. Also, these companies must have a grievance redressal mechanism and an officer to handle the complaints. Within three months, the government is set to implement a law to regulate digital content. In a press conference, union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Supreme Court had ordered the government to make guidelines regarding the content to be put on the online platform.
