Pune’s Serum Institute of India (SII) is currently struggling to meet the demands of vaccine supply in India and to other countries. SII CEO Adar Poonawalla said in an interview that AstraZeneca has sent a legal notice to the company due to delays in the supply of vaccine. He said that SII has sought help from the Government of India in the form of a grant so that the production of Covishield could be doubled. He said that around Rs 3,000 crore would be needed to increase the production capacity of the COVID-19 vaccine. Currently, the company is producing 20 lakh doses per day and so far, more than 60 million doses have been exported to other countries.
