Despite having sufficient water in the Jamni dam, the farmers of Mehroni region, dependent for irrigation on the Jamni canal, are craving for water. The operation of the canal started on November 1, but even after 25 days of passage, water has not reached Mehrauli, while the canal is tailed to Bamhauri Ghat about 4 kilometers ahead of it. According to the roster, the operation of the canal will stop on November 29 while hundreds of hectares of agricultural land is still lying unirrigated. In the absence of irrigation, the crop in the fields has reached the verge of drying up. The farmer is worried and upset about this. Due to indifference of the irrigation department, farmers are constantly being requested by high officials, but till now only blank assurances have been received. In such a situation, the patience of the farmers is now starting to answer and they are planning to launch a movement. Hundreds of farmers met Manohar Lal Panth Manu Kori, regional MLA and Minister of State, Uttar Pradesh, who reached Mehrauli on Wednesday and expressed strong resentment over the negligence of the irrigation department.
