On the Gayatri Ganga Ghat of Gayatri Tapobhumi of Sumerpur town, Chhath Mahaparva was celebrated by offering Arghya to Sun God while drowning in the evening. On this occasion hundreds of women and children were present at the ghat. About half a hundred families of Bihar province have been living in the town for decades. These people celebrate Maha Chhath festival at the Gayatri Ganga Ghat of Gayatri Tapobhumi, the main religious place of the town every year. This year also, according to tradition, Chhath festival was celebrated with enthusiasm and reverence by offering sun to the sun in the evening. This Mahaparava will be finished by offering the sun rising in the morning. Along with this, Nirjala fast lasting 36 hours will also be done. To offer prayers to Surya Dev in the evening, Dr. Arun Kumar Mishra, Principal of Sri Vidya Mandir Inter College, resident of Bihar province, present at Gayatri Ganga Ghat, Monu Singh, Surendra Jaiswal, Shailesh, Palturam Yadav, Gyanchand Jaiswal etc. told that this Mahaparva Happiness is the folk festival of wishing prosperity.
