Bihar Govt to start ‘Laksmibai pension scheme’ for COVID-19 widows

Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths in India, Bihar Government has released a new scheme for widows in the state. The scheme is called as Lakshmibai Pension Scheme, which will provide a sum amount of Rs. 4 lakh compensation to kin of those who died due to COVID-19. It will be allowed for widows above 18 years of age. According to sources, the social welfare department has identified over 2026 widows, who lost their husbands and come under below poverty line (BPL) families. However, 70% of those widows have also provided their bank account details for transfer of monthly pension of Rs.400.
