The central government has announced a Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for battery storage. The decision was taken in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar informed in a press conference that the Union Cabinet has approved Rs 18,100 crore PLI scheme for battery storage. He informed that this scheme will generate 15000 MW of electricity in the coming years. The Union Minister said, “India imports Rs 20,000 crore worth of battery storage equipment. With the PLI scheme, the country will now become self-reliant in this field.”
