PM Modi: Government has no business to be in business

Speaking in a webinar organized by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) on the subject of privatization, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Our government’s effort is to improve the standard of living of the people and also reduce the government’s unnecessary interference in the lives of the people.” He said that his administration is committed to privatizing all government companies except for a few in four strategic areas. The PM said, “Govt is responsible to fully support the enterprises & businesses in the country but it is neither necessary nor possible for the govt to run enterprises itself. Government has no business to be in business.” He added, “The mantra that the government is moving forward with is – Monetize and Modernize.”
