Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the General Budget 2021 of the central government’s third term in Parliament on Monday. She announced that the exemption on custom duty on mobiles, its parts and chargers has been abolished. This will mean that the prices of mobile phones will be increased significantly. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the price of mobiles, chargers and its parts will now be subjected to a 2.5 percent custom duty. This step will give a boost to the ‘Make in India’ program and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign of the government as it will benefit domestic tech companies. These companies will manufacture parts in the country and the imports will be reduced gradually.
